You get one moment, when she notices you, and she smiles atsomething you said, and your hearts march to the same cadence. A scented bonfire flares around you, a honeyed heat that sputters and fades. How you scurry and scamper after her, how you squirmand squark at your remembered son. Flattering, faltering, falling. Until everything is sharp edges, slashed shadows, and sobbing.
